As journalists, we know that often times the backstory can be more intriguing than the printed story. After spending 30 years as an investigative reporter for the Honolulu Advertiser and KITV television, James Dooley finally shared his fascinating stories of chasing high-profile scandals that occurred throughout Hawaii in his book Sunny Skies, Shady Characters.
Released in 2015, Shady Characters mentions many well-known political and public figures across Hawaii, including Big Island businessman Larry Mehau, who recently passed away. It’s an interesting read about journalism, crime and politics.
Dooley has agreed to travel to the Big Island and talk exclusively to our press club about his career as an investigative journalist and his new book. We had to wait months until more copies of his book were printed (it’s that popular) but we’re pleased to announce that Dooley’s talk will be held Friday, April 22, 11:30 a.m. – 1 p.m. atKenichi’s restaurant in Hilo.
Tickets are $20 for BIPC members, $25 for non-members. Lunch buffet will include chicken katsu, furikake panko salmon, yakisoba, salad, vegetable, and a beverage. We an Eventbrite page up for online reservations. Click on the link below to reserve your seat.
