Friends and Family came together to honor and remember veteran journalist and Big Island Press Club founder Hugh Clark today at the Dodo Mortuary Chapel in Hilo. There will be a sunrise 6 a.m. ash scattering Saturday, June 20, 2015 at Moku Ola (Coconut Island) into Hilo Bay for anyone who would like to attend. The family asks that Memorial donations be made to the Big Island Press Club Scholarship Foundation or American Lung Association.
Obituary: Hugh James Clark, 75, of Hilo died June 11 at Hospice of Hilo Pohai Malama Facility. Born in Santa Rosa, Calif., he was a retired reporter for the former Honolulu Advertiser, former news editor at the Tribune-Herald, founding member and past president of Big Island Press Club, 30-year volunteer with the American Lung Association, serving 10 years on its national board of directors, member of the Nissan Hall of Honor and University of Hawaii-Hilo Athletic Hall of Fame. Visitation 4–5 p.m. Friday, June 19, at Dodo Mortuary Chapel. Celebration of life at 5 p.m. Casual attire; no flowers. Memorial donations to Big Island Press Club Scholarship Foundation or American Lung Association. Survived by wife, Anne Clark of Hilo; daughter, Sandhya Clark of New York City; brother, Thomas (Judie) David Clark of Piedmont, Calif.; sister, Joan (David) Clark Sinclair of Hayward, Calif.; one niece.
